SUMMER RAMBLE: Sunday 8th December 2019, Meet at 9:15 am

Moonah Woodland Reserve, 50 Flinders Street Rye, meeting point 45 Milton Road Rye. The parcel adjacent to Milton Road Bushland Reserve has recently been acquired by the Shire, after a successful campaign by the Nepean Conservation Group. We had over 70 people come to celebrate, joining us for a guided walk with local ecologist Gidja Walker to explore the reserves natural values, followed by a BBQ lunch with vegetarian options available, Gerard and Hannah and team from MPS cooking. It was a fabulous morning, and a great opportunity to meet with many NCG members, the broader local community and hear people’s concerns, hopes, suggestions and visions for the future. It was a wonderful opportunity to thank our many Friends Groups for the wonderful work they do. The NCG is very optimistic about forming a Friends group in early 2020 for Flinders St Rye – with numbers of people already volunteering.

AUGUST RAMBLE: Sunday 18th August 2019, Meet at 9:15 am

Rye Boat Launch Ramps to Tyrone Foreshore Reserve. We will meet at 9:15 am for a 9:30 am sharp start. Meet at the car park at the boat launch ramps (opposite Dundas St) to the west side of Rye Jetty (see Map below).

We will view the new ramps, and then head towards Tyrone foreshore via the historic chicory kiln then along the beach, along the way climbing stairs to a lookout then on to Tyrone camping ground and Tyrone Foreshore Reserve.

Located in the town of Rye on the Mornington Peninsula, Tyrone Foreshore Reserve is a favourite of campers and beachgoers. It has been identified by the Department of Sustainability and Environment as an area of environmental significance, with endangered and rare plant species.

WINTER RAMBLE: Sunday 9th June 2019, meet at 9.00 am

Our winter ramble is in Point Nepean National Park, starting at the disused visitor centre just inside the entrance to the park, on the left side.

We will walk the Wilson’s Folly track to London Bridge and return.  This is an interesting walk along ridges and woodlands with views to Bass Strait and Valley grasslands. The return trip from visitor centre is 3.9 kms. We encourage as many people as possible to come – members please invite friends and family members. Wear suitable walking shoes, bring a spray jacket, something warm if the forecast is for cold weather; water and a snack if you wish; and a camera.
