Former Petition to Parliament. December 2019 Update

The Flinders Street Reserve was acquired by Mornington Peninsula Shire Council from the State Education Department in mid-November 2019. It is currently intended to be maintained as a bushland reserve.

More than 90% of native vegetation on the Mornington Peninsula has been lost since European settlement. A 3.1 hectare refuge of very high conservation significance in the heart of Rye is in danger of subdivision (see green square emcircled with red in image). We petition the State Government to act on its Biodiversity 2037 Plan to stop the decline of native flora and fauna and improve our natural environment over the next twenty years. This bushland with environmentally significant native plants and grasses, orchids, old Moonah woodland and native birds must be conserved.
