TUCKEY TRACK FRIENDS GROUP  –  Sorrento

Tuckey track friends group is involved in the restoration of Coastal Moonah Woodland habitat which characterises this part of the Nepean Peninsula. The Track travels from the western sister headland at Port Phillip, through Tuckey Track Bush-land Reserve to St Paul’s Look out at Bass Strait. Our group is also involved in heritage projects associated with the historic Collins Settlement site.

Tuckey Track tells many stories of land use over time. A stand of magnificent Southern blue gums is a feature of one part of the track. Another area of interest is the Reserve which was formerly a golf course.  Thanks to the dedicated volunteers, it is now well underway to becoming a restored Coastal Moonah Woodland Wonderland of indigenous flora and fauna.

Our Friends Group has benefited from the support of Nepean Conservation Group, Mornington Peninsula Shire, Parks Victoria, Nepean Historical Society and other community groups over the years. Grants have been used to re-vegetate the bush-land reserve and interpretive signs have been installed throughout the self guided walk.

Tuckey Track Friends Group combines observation, education, weeding, planting and socialising in its working bees. Our volunteers are encouraged to see their own gardens as an extension and important part of conserving and increasing Coastal Moonah Woodland which is listed as an ‘Endangered Vegetation Class’ under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988. The Shire at times makes indigenous tube stock available to achieve this objective. We also have an online, informal quarterly newsletter.
