Ocean Beach Road beyond the roundabout, heading towards the ocean beach, or “back beach” as it is locally known, is residential, either private or various forms of guest accommodation. Westella Guesthouse was a smaller, yet substantive private guesthouse, served by domestic staff as seen in the photograph. The picket fence is a feature of many of the early properties in Sorrento, clearly demarcating the private from the public domain. Comfortable amenities such as those offered here, close to the natural features of Sorrento and convenient to all the town had to offer, were keenly sought after by visitors in the high season. It is not known when Westella was demolished. The property was sold and the site is now occupied by the Smokehouse restaurant.
